The 2018 AFS Global Conference is an opportunity to network across sectors and countries to define how to meet the growing demand for global competence, by creating and aligning policies, tools and resources that empower educators to deliver these essential 21st century skills to learners at every life stage.  This conversation can not be productive without the perspectives and input of teachers and students.

We invite teachers and students to take part in the critical discussions, develop their global competences, network with influencers and exchange best practices with us in Budapest.

AFS Global Conference Central-Eastern Europe Educator Scholarships

Deadline - 10 July 2018

AFS Intercultural Programs is proud to offer special AFS Global Conference Central-Eastern European Teachers Scholarship to support teachers currently working in one of the 8 countries (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia) where AFS has local organizations and programing activities in the region.

Who can apply?

  • Primary and secondary school (K–12) teachers and administrators,
  • College/university educators working in the global education and related fields,
  • All applicants must be based in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia or Slovenia.

All candidates must submit:

  • A completed application form (see below)
  • A motivation letter demonstrating why you wish to participate in the event, strong commitment to global competence education, and concrete plans to multiply knowledge gained at the Conference
  • Recommendation/official endorsement letter from one of the the following
    • an AFS or Sentio Network Organization
    • an AFS Global Conference Content Partner
    • your school or other national/state education authority (e.g. Ministry or Department of Education, Higher Education Authority, etc.)

What does the scholarship provide?

  • 50% scholarship (275 Euros) to be applied towards the AFS Global Conference registration fees, participants will have to cover the rest of their registration fees as well as any travel and accommodation expenses.

Deadline:

The deadline for scholarship applications is 10 July 2018.  Applicants will be notified in July.

AFS Global Conference Student & Educator Scholarships

Deadline - 22 June 2018

Who can apply?

  • Current full-time students
  • Primary and secondary school (K–12) teachers and administrators
  • College/university educators working in the global education and related fields

All candidates must submit:

  • A completed application form (see below)
  • A brief description demonstrating why you wish to participate in the event, strong commitment to global competence education, and concrete plans to multiply knowledge gained at the Conference
  • Recommendation/official endorsement letter from one of the following
    • an AFS or Sentio Network Organization
    • an AFS Global Conference Content Partner
    • your school or other national/state education authority (e.g. Ministry or Department of Education, Higher Education Authority, etc.)

What does the scholarship provide?

  • 100% of AFS Global Conference registration fees,  
  • up to 4 nights stay in double room accommodation at the Novotel Budapest City during conference dates,
  • Reimbursement of international round-trip travel costs to Budapest, up to established limits based on the origin of travel. Scholarship recipients will be asked to use the most economical means of transport. They will be reimbursed for partial or full travel costs after attending the AFS Global Conference and within 10 business days of submitting the original receipt.

The deadline for scholarship applications is 22 June 2018.  Applicants will be notified in July 2018.

How can you apply for a AFS Global Conference Educator & Student Scholarship?

  • Obtain your reference/endorsement letter from one of the above mentioned institutions.
  • Complete the online application form. 
  • Attach your reference/endorsement letter and submit your application.  

Please note:

  • Detailed instructions for travel arrangements will be shared with scholarship recipients and reimbursements will be made up to a certain limit based on the point of departure and optimal means of transport to Budapest (train, economy-class flight, etc.).
  • Registration includes access to plenary sessions, concurrent sessions, the exhibit hall, networking dinner and meal functions excluding pre-conference events that require additional registration.
  • Scholarship recipients are responsible for the remaining costs of their travel to the conference and any costs associated with visa application, field experiences, workshops, guest tickets, bank transfer fees and merchandise purchases.
  • The final decision on selected scholarship winners will be made by AFS Intercultural Programs.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please make sure that you have all requested materials and submit your applications before the deadline.
