AFS is proud to launch scholarship applications for teachers and students to attend the 2019 AFS Global Conference on Active Global Citizenship—and How to Educate for It (9-11 October in Montreal, Canada).

AFS Global Conference interactive and ideas-driven sessions facilitated by leading university professors, K-12 experts and non-formal educators will explore integrating global competence education into school curricula, student-driven study abroad programs, how to mentor the next generation of global citizens and more.

Teachers and students play a critical role in these discussions, as they are the ones who will tackle the greatest global challenges and the ones most directly affected by our education systems, policies, and practices.

Who can apply?

  • Current full-time students;
  • Primary and secondary school (K–12) teachers and administrators;
  • College/university educators working in global education and related fields.
  • Already registered participants can also apply, if they are awarded a scholarship they will be reimbursed accordingly.
  • Presenters of currently accepted proposals can only apply for these scholarships if they also fulfill the above-mentioned criteria.

All candidates must submit:

  • A completed application form (see here)
  • A motivation letter (as a part of the application form) demonstrating why you wish to participate in the event, your current project, a strong commitment to global competence education, and concrete plans to multiply knowledge gained at the Conference
  • Recommendation/official endorsement letter from one of the following
    • an AFS or Sentio Network Organization
    • an AFS Global Conference Content Partner
    • your school or other national/state education authority (e.g. Ministry or Department of Education, Higher Education Authority, etc.)

What does the scholarship provide?

  • Full coverage of the AFS Global Conference registration fees;
  • Up to 3 night-stay in double room accommodation in the Conference hotel from 9 to 12 October;
  • Partial or full reimbursement of international round-trip travel costs to Montreal up to established limits based on the origin of travel. In the case of partial travel reimbursement, participants will have to cover the rest of their travel expenses. ***Scholarship recipients will be asked to use the most economical means of transportation. Reimbursement will be done after the conference within 10 business days of submitting the original receipt. Partial re-reimbursement of travel expenses will depend on the final list of scholarships recipients and their origins of travel. We are aiming to offer as many scholarships as possible within a limited budget. For those traveling from the furthest destinations and most-expensive routes, maximum travel reimbursement will be 500 USD.

The deadline for scholarship applications is 9 August 2019. Applicants will be notified of the selection results by 6 September.
