Ths multi-national STEM Summer Session in Würzburg in Northern Bavaria offers a variety of workshops in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects, from how to extract DNA to the study of rocket drives. Of course, a German STEM-program would not be complete without some focus on cars as well and a visit to the BMW Museum. Also on the schedule are visits to companies who work in STEM fields.

Additionally there will be a structured intercultural learning curriculum, to help you grow as a global citizen This includes daily reflections on living and learning in an intercultural group.

f you are interested in topics of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), this is the right Summer Camp for you. Put on your laboratory coat and grab a microscope. You are going to attend the workshops like “CSI Würzburg” and solve a crime.

You learn how to extract DNA and do experiments at the school lab of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Next to the scientific experience the Intercultural STEM Summer Session also offers a striking leisure time program, which includes a two-day trip to Munich. To make sure that you learn a lot about the different cultures of the other participants, there will be mini-sessions on intercultural topics. All these things combined are the perfect preparation for your future in the international academic and science field.

During the Intercultural STEM Summer Session you will live at the Würzburg Youth Hostel and share a bedroom with other camp participants. The camp includes full board. Camp counselors will be with the group full time. The language spoken in the Intercultural STEM Summer Session is English, therefore good English communication skills (especially speaking abilities) are essential. You do not need to speak any German.

Take home hands-on experience on STEM topics, lots of intercultural knowledge and new international friendships! We are looking forward to seeing you in Wuerzburg!

Returning Home

“Life-changing” is hard to describe, yet it’s nearly always the first thing that AFSers say when asked about their experience abroad. “Transformed” is another one. When you return home, if you’re like most AFSers, you’ll bring with you a sense of accomplishment unlike any other. You’ll have gained maturity and independence, discovered new passions, and feel like you can do anything you set your mind to. That transformation isn’t visible only to you, though – others see it as well. AFSers gain critical skills for college and careers, ranging from language fluency to intercultural competence and critical reasoning. “Life-changing” means it’s only the beginning.
