Learning

The participants will spend the four weeks in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, where they will have the choice to attend Intensive classrooms instructions of modern standards Arabic or French at the “Institut Bourguiba des Langues Vivantes”, from Monday to Friday, totaling 100 hours of teaching. A well-renowned institute, our students will also be able to mingle with other students from all over the world who will have chosen this same Institute to learn and/or consolidate their language proficiency.

As, most Tunisian speak French and Arabic, the students will be able to practice their French and Arabic skills outside classes, and discover the Tunisian culture and traditions…

Exploring the Area

The Culture of Tunisia is a product of more than 3000 years of history and an important multi-ethnic influx.

During their stay in Tunisia, the participants will approach the culture and history through several outdoor activities, organized by AFS, in Tunis, the surrounding areas, and the country. This will be mainly accomplished through field trips which will be organized during two weekends.

The first weekend will bring the students to explore our capital, starting with the Medina, the Bardo Museum which is world-renowned for its Roman Mosaic Collection, Carthage with its one of a kind Punic Port, archaeological sites, and museum(s)…

The second weekend, a field trip will be organized in Kelibia, a place well known for its pristine beaches, archaeological sites, and history.

Accommodation

Throughout their time in Tunisia, the students will have the opportunity to live with host families and have the incredible experience of immersing themselves in the local lifestyles. Also, they will have the opportunity to meet our AFS Volunteers whose only wish will be to share with them the hidden gems of our capital and of our country.

Returning Home

“Life-changing” is hard to describe, yet it’s nearly always the first thing that AFSers say when asked about their experience abroad. “Transformed” is another one. When you return home, if you’re like most AFSers, you’ll bring with you a sense of accomplishment unlike any other. You’ll have gained maturity and independence, discovered new passions, and feel like you can do anything you set your mind to. That transformation isn’t visible only to you, though – others see it as well. AFSers gain critical skills for college and careers, ranging from language fluency to intercultural competence and critical reasoning. “Life-changing” means it’s only the beginning.
